SUSTAINABILITY OF MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OF MOUNTAIN PASTURES IN REUNION ISLAND (Indian Ocean)

چکیده
The use of a systemic approach allows us to analyse the interrelationship between the vegetation dynamic and the agricultural practices through three biological indicators which relate to one hundred paddocks in six cattle farms. Concerning the vegetation dynamics, it seems that some management practices lead to a nonreversable degradation stage. As regards the forage system, the measure of sward-height and estimation of the volume of available herbage show a poor relationship between management practices of pastures and the biological seasonal rhythm. The mineral nutritional composition of vegetation illustrates that fertilizing practices are not adapted to the particular nature of soil (especially Phosphorous availability).

[Post nearly Drowning Vibrio alginolyticus Septicemia Acquired in Reunion (Indian Ocean)].
AbstractWe report the first case of Vibrio alginolyticus septicemia in the Indian Ocean (Reunion Island), in a patient (70-year-old-man) with multiple underlying conditions, following a nearly drowning in the lagoon of Reunion. From now on, V. alginolyticus should be considered as a possible agent of septicemia in the Indian Ocean, particularly following marine activities.

In the last 20 years, molecular ecology approaches have proven to be extremely useful to identify and assess factors associated with viral emerging diseases, particularly in economically and socially important tropical crops such as maize (maize streak disease) and cassava (cassava mosaic disease). Molecular ecology approaches were applied in Reunion Island to analyze the epidemic of tomato yel...
متن کاملUsing an Emergency Department Syndromic Surveillance System to Assess the Impact of Cyclone Bejisa, Reunion Island
Introduction On January 2, 2014 the cyclone Bejisa struck Reunion Island. This storm of Category 3 (Saffir–Simpson scale) disturbed electricity supply and drinking water systems. Floods, roof destructions and the threat of landslide led to the evacuation of residents to emergency shleters. In this context, the regional office of French Institute for Public Health Surveillance in Indian Ocean se...

BACKGROUND Reunion Island is a French overseas territory located in the south-western of Indian Ocean, 700 km east of Madagascar. Leprosy first arrived on Reunion Island in the early 1700s with the African slaves and immigration from Madagascar. The disease was endemic until 1980 but improvement of health care and life conditions of inhabitants in the island have allowed a strong decrease in ne...

The scleractinian coral Pocillopora damicornis type β is known to present a mixed reproduction mode: through sexual reproduction, new genotypes are created, while asexual reproduction insures their propagation. In order to investigate the relative proportion of each reproduction mode in P. damicornis type β populations from Reunion Island, Indian Ocean, clonal propagation along the west coast w...
